DowelBoard

DowelBoard is an innovative new product created to combine super-useful organization features with an attractive design made to fit into any room of your home. The DowelBoard system lets you choose the components that are right for you. Strong, expandable frames that will last for years. A unique assortment of thoughtfully designed accessories. A customizable system made to fit exactly in your spaces.
DowelBoards can be freestanding, wall mounted, or both for maximum utility. Creating multiple boards lets you design them to target specific needs. So when it's time to get productive you can fetch an entire board off the wall and bring it to the task at hand. Then when you’re done, just stow your items back on the board and back on the wall it goes.
Go ahead, build your perfect DowelBoard. Better yet, build multiple, and use them to tidy your stuff, display the things you love most, and get things done. Your search for the perfect organizer is over.
What kind of dowels do I need?
DowelBoards are designed to use ½ inch wooden dowels, which are cheap and easy to find in your local craft, hardware stores, or online in a variety of wood options and lengths. The best length of dowel will depend on your space and intended use. DowelBoard solutions holding only light materials can be built and installed in as long as 48 inches in a single span. Heavier boards or boards intended for frequent movement may be more wieldy at 20 to 24 inches. We recommend bamboo or a stiff hardwood like oak. Birch and Poplar dowels also work, but should be loaded according to their more flexible nature.
Why don't you sell the dowels?
While this might be something we can do some day, for now it would add lots of complexity for a part that can easily be found at many local stores and other online locations. Plus, we really want the dowels to be treated as something to cut and customize for each individual board's purpose and space.
How are the DowelBoard components made?
The DowelBoard system uses 3D printing technology to create durable components made of high quality plastics. Most components including all frames, hooks, bolts, clips, and pegs are printed with a material called PETG that provides extra toughness. In the future, some bins and trays may be printed with PLA, allowing for additional color options while maintaining good durability. 3D printing is an efficient, additive manufacturing process that forms parts by printing materials one layer at a time, opening up new design paradigms and rapid product development while eliminating the waste generated by cutting away unwanted material in subtractive manufacturing. Products made with 3D printing often have visible patterns or textures called “layer lines”, a byproduct of manufacturing with an aesthetic similar to woodgrains in products made from wood.
